Medigap and Medicare Supplement policies are the same (private policies that fill gaps in Original Medicare, e.g., coinsurance, copays, deductibles).

Medicare Supplement policy purchase basics:
- Requires Original Medicare (Part A + Part B)
- Monthly premium paid to private insurer in addition to Part B premium
- Standardized plans: same letter = same basic benefits
- Guaranteed renewable (post-1992) unless material misrepresentation
- Best time to buy: 6-month Open Enrollment starting first month you have Part B and are 65+
- Use any doctor/hospital that accepts Medicare, anywhere in the U.S.
- Plans sold after 2005 don’t include prescription drug coverage; join separate Part D plan if needed
